Safeway launched a comprehensive, long-term Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and Sustainability Initiative with the goal to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and improve air quality and the environment in the communities they serve. Safeway is the 7th largest retail purchaser of green power in the U.S., joining the elite group of companies on the EPA Green Power Partnership’s Top 25 list. Safeway continually researches how best to meet their facility’s energy requirements with renewable power and concluded the best solution at their Tracy Distribution Center was a Wind Energy System from Foundation Windpower.

“This is about helping businesses meet regulatory requirements, reduce their cost of doing business, and transform how they do that business and meeting the expectations of today’s consumer, I’m ecstatic they can do it in Tracy.”

- Leon Churchill – City Manager, Tracy, CA
